15 minutes preparation time, 30 minutes cooking time

Makes 12-16 squares

Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown rice flour

  • ½ cup cocoa

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ¾ tsp xanthan gum

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ cup raw brown sugar

  • ½ cup walnuts chopped

  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce

  • ¼ cup brown rice malt syrup

  • ¾ - 1 cup almond milk

Method

  1. Heat oven to 180 degrees. Line a square baking tray with baking paper.

  2. Sift dry ingredients minus sugar and walnuts into a large bowl. Add in sugar and walnuts.

  3. In a separate bowl mix together all wet ingredients.

  4. Pour wet into dry ingredients and mix until combined.

  5. Pour into baking pan, push into edges and smooth top.

  6. Cook in a fan forced oven for 30 minutes. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes and slice. Brownies should have a fudgy texture and are not overly sweet. Eat warm or room temperature!

 

NB: Brownies can be frozen, best eaten at room temperature.
